The built environment – offices, houses and other buildings – can be the flagbearers of current efforts to turn Europe into a carbon-neutral economy, reports Martin Banks
On 10 November 2016, the European Commission (DG GROW) issued a protocol which provides guidance on managing construction and demolition waste (C&DW). Developed by Ecofys, the protocol aims to increase industry's confidence in the waste management process and the quality of recycled C&DW materials.

According to the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate, over the next 15 years, US$90 trillion needs to be invested in infrastructure. As a result, it calls on governments and finance institutions to scale up and shift investment for sustainable infrastructure as a fundamental strategy to spur growth.
Earlier this month, the Mayor's Adapt initiative published a brochure outlining good practices in terms of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures for European cities.
