UNECE calls for access to decent, affordable and healthy housing
The charter is based on 4 key principles, namely environmental protection, economic effectiveness, social inclusion and participation & cultural adequacy. According to the Charter, “housing should be planned, constructed and used in a way that minimizes environmental impact and promotes environmental sustainability”. With this in mind, it supports a series of actions which include housing practices that contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of buildings throughout their life-cycle, improved environmental and energy performance of dwellings, and a housing stock that is resilient to natural and “human-generated” hazards.
