Consultation on sustainable buildings: summary of responses

On 5 June 2014, the European Commission (DG Environment) published a summary of the responses to the public consultation on sustainable buildings which took place between July and October 2013. According to the summary, the majority agree on the importance of material and of the durability of construction products and components. In addition, stakeholders found all the aspects related with materials to be important: for manufacturing of construction products, at the construction and demolition sites as well as during the use stage of a building. The majority also agreed that the appropriate level for intervention is EU level with regards to the life cycle analysis of construction products, indicators and input data. In addition, most respondents agree on the need for change in terms of design for deconstruction of buildings, disassembly of construction products and recycled material in construction products.
